Currently studying a Professional Doctorate in Education at Cardiff University and will focus her research on widening participation. Gillian has over 20 years’ experience in youth & community work and workforce development, lectures at Cardiff Metropolitan University. Gillian completed a Masters in Lifelong Learning at Swansea University in 2010 researching how institutions implement policy into practice. She is a JNC professionally endorsed youth & community practitioner graduating in 2003 at University of Wales Newport.
In addition, Gillian is a qualified trainer, assessor and internal verifier with extensive experience of leading and coordinating quality assurance processes within specialist areas of learning and work, homelessness, young people’s services and vocational qualifications. She is a community volunteer, has served as an elected councilor and is an advocate for youth work training within a number of sectors. Since 2011 Gillian has developed strategic partnerships to support access and progression for learners with a number of HEIs including CMU, USW, TSD and Glyndwr universities.
A champion for young people and those that work with them Gillian’s key passion is to widen participation and access for non-traditional learners wishing to progress onto higher education.
